Is Ese Walters a temptress or do Nigerians just idolise pastors?

NIGERIA, Abuja - A lady known as Ese Walters has posted a confession online alleging that a Nigerian pastor called Biodun Fatoyinbo of the COZA church based in Abuja abused or
coerced her into having an affair with him. Another lady, known a s France has come out to make a similar claim. So, far pastor Fatoyinbo has not made any statement to deny or support this allegation. A twit he made after church service today says that he had been advised by friends in 'high places' not to reply to Ms Walters' claims yet.

After reading the well detailed 'confession' made by Ms Walters and perusing comments posted online by members of COZA, Christians and other Nigerians, it is easy to conclude that Nigerian believers fiercely protect and defend their leaders. This in itself is not a bad thing but defending anyone without access to the full details of a story is morally wrong.

In the other side of the spectrum are the people who are attacking this leader and I wonder why people always eager to bring down men of God?

I have written about violence to women and if this story us true, then, this is a typical African case. A man does not have to sexually exploit a women violently before it is rape.

Where a person in a position of authority has unduly influenced or taken advantage of someone who looks up to him or her, this is legally deemed abuse.

People in positions of power such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, parents, religious and political leaders can exert influence over others and so, have act responsibly at all times.
Where a pastor has a right to slap another person in the name of Jesus is not biblical. Where pastors have sex with young female members outside of marriage is not biblical.

However, we should all realsie that religious leaders are human and therefore fallible. The Bible confirms that all Christians as sinners. It declares that Christians should judge not or they will be judged too. This follows that if you have done something wrong to anyone, you have sinned. According to Christian believe, a sin is a sin - whether someone steals a sweet and another kills their neigbour, both have sinned equally in the eyes of God. These two people, therefore, are sinners and must not judge others.

If this pastor has truly done wrong, this is, preach against adultery and do the opposite in secret, (which many of us do), then, that is wrong. But, why not leave him to face God for judgement? If over 4 billion people around the world believe in God, then, there must be some truth in the power of God. And, according to the Bible, Jesus once said “let he without sin be the first to cast the stone”, and when he lifted up is head non of the accuser were around." So, let God decide.

On the other hand, what happens to other vulnerable young girls in the church and the thousands of pastors who are abusing them? If we all close our eyes to this type of evil, if it is true, it will go on and on. Some pastors will go to hell and so many women will end up depressed, sick and not being able to fulfill their destinies. Is this what church and Jesus Christ about?

Pastor Fatoyinbo must make a statement as soon as possible to clear his name. Whatever he says should not be used as a weapon against all male pastors but as an avenue to pray for them. What these pastors a are doing is not intentional, it is a custom of polygamy which has been passed down through a generations of believes which are difficult to eradicate.

Mothers and young women too need to be more assertive and be open to change. Nigerian culture is one that where girls live in fear of fathers and men. Women need to learn to speak out even in the midst of fear and threats by these men. Girls are often abused in family settings by uncles and male cousins but keep quiet because they are sacred. This must stop. Abuse is not only in the church is it in the workplace and in all families! We must open our eyes and stop this evil fast.

So, is Ese Walters and other women like her a temptresses then, luring vulnerable pastors all the way from Nigeria to London to sleep with them? Or did she make up this nasty story with others to destroy him? Well, she obviously is a pretty and intelligent woman but would she make up a story like this to bring down an 'anointed man of God'? There have always been women who roam around churches to bewitch pastors I have heard. But would a man of God who is full of of power and anointed easily fall prey to such women? If they do, then there is a big problems because women like this will be everywhere.

Well, all I can personally say is this: while this is an interesting story, my advise would be that instead of waiting eagerly for this story to unfold, why don't we all simply focus on ourselves, our walk with God and on where we will spend our eternity. The end of the world is near and Jesus Christ is coming soon. Now if Jesus were to come right now, would you ready? That's the million dollar question.
