5 reasons why Syria should not be attacked

As Britain withdraws her threat of war with Syria, here are five reason why that decision was a smart one.

The UN convey in Syria was fired at as they went about digging for evidence on Monday. Obviously, some locals do not welcome the UN personnel in their country.

  1. At the moment, no one knows who carried out the chemical attack, therefore, the claims made by the US, France and Britain are mere allegations. The UN officials have not finished their investigation, so, how can anyone know who carried out the attack? The only evidence the UN has is the footage of the attack.
  2. Syria has powerful allies such as Russia and China. Syria also has a strong Al-Qaeda presence which can be risky. A strike could start a world war which will include use of chemical weapons.
  3. Attacking Syria will only result in more deaths of innocent people including children and there would be a bigger surge in refugees spilling into countries like Lebanon and Turkey.
  4. Attacking Syria would cause more unrest in the Middle East especially amongst influential sections among the Lebanese and Iranians. Many Middle Eastern people feel that if the Assad regime is ousted, then their own countries could be the next targets by western super powers.
  5. In the event of an attack, Syria would most likely be worse off and end up in chaos like Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya.
