NIGERIA - Four Nigerian men aged between 20 and 22, have received 20 lashes each and were also ordered to pay a fine of $120 (£70). The men received the punishment after an Islamic court in the northern city of Bauchi convicted them of gay sex, local officials say. They were among a group of people arrested late last year.
Homosexual acts are illegal in Nigeria under both Islamic (Sharia) and secular law.
Same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection are now banned throughout Nigeria.
