"Hold Nigerian Immigration Service CGI accountable for deaths", Nigerians cry out

Nigerian across dozens of social media sites have called for the head of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to be held accountable for the deaths at the Abuja Stadium on Saturday, where 11 people died.


Here is the CGI of the Nigerian Immigration Services, Mr. David Shikfu Parradang mni. According to the Nigerian Immigration website, the 54 year old holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from University of Lagos. He is also an Alumnus of the Prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State and has over 30 year experience of working in the service.

Here is the information on the NIS website asking for people to attend the recruitment exercise.

As part of his maiden speech in 2013 as the new CGI, Mr. David Shikfu Parradang mni said he "pledged to deploy cutting edge information technology tools in the NIS operations". He also said that his administration will “rely on cutting edge technologies that are practicable in our environment to transform the Nigeria Immigration Service”.

The use of IT was clearly not employed during the recruitment exercise on Saturday, the CGI must, therefore  address these questions:

1. Who was in charge of strategic planning at the NIS event?
2. Who was in charge of crowd control?
3. What was the aim of the gathering?
4. Who gave the instructions for unemployed people to pay for applications forms and for them to to pay all at the same time?
5. Why were unemployed people asked to meet at a particular centre on a particular day?
6. If the CGI had pledged to employ cutting edge IT tools to manage the administration of the serve how come IT systems were not used?
