Angry Protests in Six European Countries!

EURO NEWS - Thousands of angry protesters took to the streets today in Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain to demand that their governments abandon the austerity measures implemented in these countries to help cut deficits. So, far 80 people have been arrested across the region and scores of policemen have been injured.

The protesters ground flights, closed schools and shut down transport. Millions of workers are took part in the dozens of co-ordinated protests in a so-called European Day of Action and Solidarity against spending cuts and tax hikes.


Italy
Riot police fired rubber bullets at hundreds of protesters
Madrid's Cibeles Square and used night-sticks to quell picket line disturbances
Airlines operating in Italy cut more than 600 flights including some 250 international routes.
 The country's biggest trade union CGIL called strikes in dozens of cities
Protesting workers took to the streets calling for more safeguards for jobs and pensions and protesting against Prime Minister Mario Monti's government.


Spain
Hospitals will fully staff emergency and surgery rooms but non-essential care will be scaled back.
Spain, now back in recession for the second time in two years.
One in four workers is unemployed and thousands homeless.

This is the first time that there has been a simultaneous strike action in four countries across Europe.
