For a lot of Americans debating on
whether Obama or Romney can do better, their chance to voice their opinions is just
around the corner. With only two days left no one is certain of what's going to
happen.
The mad scramble is now on for a large number of undecided voters
through America and according to latest figures, this election is proving to be
a close one.
So far, the polls compiled by the Real Clear Politics website, gives
Obama a lead of 0.2% in the popular vote, this amounts to 48% to Obama and 48%
to Romney leaving 4% undecided.
The statistics
Negatives
- 14 million foreclosures
- 11 million unemployed
- 119 people dead from hurricane Sandy
- No fuel and temperatures dropping on east coast
- Tough Immigration laws
Ray of hope
- House prices up by 1% the first rise since 2007
- Troops removed from Iraq
- Plans to remove troops from Afghanistan
- Health reforms
Is Hurricane Sandy a blessing in disguise?
President Barak Obama has been in a difficult situation because he
has had to focus both on the race as well as on destruction caused by the
infamous hurricane Sandy.
The obvious dilemma for the president was whether to turn his back
on the elections at a crucial time and lose or face those who needed urgent
help and probably gain a few more votes.
The president decided to attend to the people of New York and New
Jersey, sending in assistance as swiftly as possible thereby gaining the approval
of Republican Governor Christie of New Jersey. Help provided, however, has not
been adequate. There are still 8 million people without power and fuel and
millions more homeless.
On the other hand, while President Obama, tended to those affected
by the storm, Romney quickly made his move on the political campaign, visiting
numerous states to secure electoral votes. His efforts so far have paid off
closing up the gap between the two candidates.
So, the scramble for votes continues. The world now has to wait and see whether Obama
will benefit from a show of presidential leadership or whether the destruction
and loss of lives caused by Sandy will prevent the people of the north east
coast from voting?
The US Presidential Election Day is Tuesday 6 November 2012.
