Priness Catherine's royal birth compared to the strangest births in Nigeria

The UK's Daily Mail has published a complete guide to the royal birth  and called it 'Operation Heir Lift'. It details how the Duchess of Cambridge will travel to the hospital, who will be at her side during the birth and how the news of the baby's arrival will be broken to the rest of the world.

While we all know that this is a baby about to be born into a prvildeged family, we need to appreciate there a millions who are not that fortunate like a 'Kate' from Oklahoma, USA who wrote on the site,

"Lucky Kate. I had to drive myself to hospital in labour because my ex husband was drunk!"

I happen to know a few other women who gave birth in traffic in a cab on the way to the hospital!

Here are stories from Nigeria about women and babies...

  • On June 19. this year, Nigerian website PMnews.com reported  story about a baby who was allegedly born with a miniature Qur'an in Lagos. Doctors, nurses and religious leaders all verified the story.
  • The website news.com carried a story 'Nigerian factory babies bought and sold'. Miracle babies are bought by unsuspecting women who are desperate for children. A 61 year old woman was made to believe she gave birth to twins when she was not even pregnant.
  • According to a new Report by Nigerian Newspaper, Vanguard,
89,700 babies die at birth in Nigeria

  • Among countries with the worst Mothers’ Index were Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Niger, Central African Republic and Gambia.

  • Two babies were born in toilets. One was in China. The other in Nigeria. Two babies born  in the toilet. Both are boys and their mothers, first timers in their early 20s.  At first, the world was aghast with the news of the babies’ births and, of course, angry with their mothers thinking that they were nursing the ungodly thought of trying to flush their “unwanted” babies down the toilet since it emerged that both had conceived out of marriage. In both cases, fortunately, it turned out that it was a sincere error committed by neophyte mamas according to news website punch.com
  • When Angela Ihegboro first saw her newborn daughter, she was “speechless.” “She’s a miracle baby,” the 35-year-old mother said yesterday. “But still, what on earth happened here? ”What happened is that baby Nmachi is a blue-eyed, blond-haired white baby born to two black Nigerian immigrant parents at a London hospital.
