Baby News: UK's Prince William and Princess Catherine await birth

London, UK - A few months ago, the prince's office confirmed that Prince William and Catherine's baby was due in mid July. Mid July has come and gone and the prince, the duchess and the rest of the world is still waiting.

According to the NHS, it is common that babies come late and those who arrive on or before their due date are only a minority. So, it is now a waiting game.

There had been speculation that Catherine may have been expecting twins, after suffering severe morning sickness, an ailment associated with multiple pregnancies. But that speculation was laid to rest after the announcement was made that she is expecting just one baby.

The baby will be born in St Mary's hospital in Paddington, London. A special wing in the hospital is dedicated to the royal family. Catherine has chosen to have her baby in the same hospital where Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William in 1982, which at that time was a radical choice not to give birth in a royal residence.
Journalists and photographers have camped in the grounds of the hospital where the baby is to be born since Friday to get the first glimpse of the new royal baby.

The pregnancy of the 31-year-old, still popularly known as Kate, was revealed in December when she was admitted to hospital suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum or severe morning sickness.
The Duchess was admitted into hospital until her condition improved. But she was forced to cancel several public engagements due to the illness.

If the new prince or princess arrives this July, he or she could share the month with Williams' mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who was born on July 1.

The family will live in a 21-room apartment in Diana’s old home, Kensington Palace — which is undergoing a £1 million refit — where Catherine will add to her challenges that of parenting a royal baby.

William, a helicopter rescue pilot and grandson of Queen Elizabeth, is second in line to the throne, meaning his first child will become third in succession when he or she is born. Previously, male heirs took precedence over females in rules of succession.
