Nollywood film Review: "GOLD DUST IKENGA" featuring Van Vicker, Theodora Oyebade, Charles Awurum and others

Gold Dust Ikenga is the new Nollywood film produced by Malcolm A Benson and Silver Achugamonye. The film premiered at the glamorous Odeon Cinema in London on a lovely spring evening in May. Showcased on the red carpet was a host of elegantly dressed Nollywood film stars, fans and supporters.
Gold Dust was written and directed by Silver Achugamonye  who also wrote top notch movies including Marriage in the Dark 2014 which won the BEFFTA Award and The Outcast, 2016.

I arrived with my crew in good time to video the red carpet event and take some photographs. The day was mild - not cold and the crowd quite cheerful. I met up with another Nollywood star, Ola Akanni who was dressed gorgeously in a lacy ankara number.

I quickly caught up with the Queen of Nollywood, HRH Theoodora Ibekwe-Oyebade and managed to take a few snaps. After a few chats, with the former Councillor and Mayor of Barnet Council in London, United Kingdom, Kate Anolue, who I was pleasantly surprised to hear was part of the cast. We got swiftly grabbed some pop corn and drinks and at around 10.30 we all made our way up stairs into the theater.

Seating in the big comfy armchairs, I was ready to enjoy this new film. The movie, set in London and sub-urban areas of the south east, tells the story of a young Christian man, Ikenga Okeke, played by Van Viker and his quest for a heaven-sent wife. He believed that God would send him a wife and he used verses in the Bible to predict and define signs he needed to look out for in order to find her but he soon discovered that looking for a wife this way this was not possible.

The Movie was real fun, there were so many new actors and actresses who did  sterling job. I especially loved the mix of new and old actors and actresses - Kate was a pro, so was the whole crew. Gold Dust Ikenga cast is a mixture of white and black British and African heavyweights including Van Vicker starring as Ikenga Okeke, Charles Awurum – as Brother Ray, Euphemia Chukwu as Tiana, Malcolm A Benson starring as Pastor St John, Nnenna Ani, Nonso Nwaiwu and Ferguson Jack among others. There was some sound distortion at the beginning of the film which can be re-edited in future.

Gold Dust will soon be released in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana. There will be further releases in other African countries following the West African release.

This is a god job from Producer Malcolm A Benson who is an award winning Director/Actor/Producer who has starred in many films and has also directed and produced films such as Return of The Don, Ortega and His Enemies, Forget the Pact, Phantom of Fury. Lads in The City, etc. His recent film Return of The Don, has won multiple Film Festival Awards including the Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival Award of Recognition, Canada International Film Festival Award of Excellence, Depth of Field International Film Festival Award of Exceptional Merit, Accolade International Film Festival Award, Los Angeles NAFCA Awards, CA Awards, BEFFTA Awards, Cameron Film Awards, African Film Awards and many others.
