Heavy snow forecast for UK - How to prepare for cold weather

UNITED KINGDOM - Arctic-like conditions are expected in almost all parts of UK on Friday. Heavy snow, freezing cold and strong winds leading to blizzards have been forecast in most places. A red warning has been issued for south Wales, an amber warning for most of the midlands including Birmingham and a yellow warning for parts of the north east. Much of the UK is braced for snow as the cold weather threatens to cause severe disruption for motorists, flights and businesses. 

Up to 25cm of snow is expected on high ground with overnight temperatures expected to fall as low as -5C (23F). The heaviest snowfall will arrive before the morning rush-hour.
People and especially motorists are being warned to stay indoors.  that heavy snow in much of the UK 


What the warnings mean
The Met Office's red warning for snow means all non-essential travel should be avoided as severe disruption is very likely.

Amber severe weather warnings mean be prepared for disruption and only travel if necessary.


How to prepare for cold weather
  • Wear warm clothes
  • Close all windows
  • Turn up your heating
  • Have food at home
  • Stay indoors
  • Listen to the weather forecast
  • If you must go out avoid driving
  • If you must drive take a shovel, your fully charged mobile phone, extra warm clothes, a torch light, food and a warm drink.
  • Stay safe!
