EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ISAAC SUCCESS

Isaac Success is a man with purpose. He is not only the Executive Director of De Youths Passion Initiative but also the founder of many other youth projects in Nigeria.

It’s a pleasure to be able connect with you and thank you for taking time out for this interview and answering these questions.

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself - your education, interests, past work experiences?

Omoyele Isaac success is my name, born on Friday 25th January 1991, Certified First Aider with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, I’ve a diploma in Conflict Management from United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and an Occupational Safety & Health Certificate from OSH Academy, USA.

I worked with Vanguard Media Limited, one of Nigeria’s best read newspaper from 2008 till 2011 then I decided to fully live my passion. I started off per time base before I resigned.

How would you describe yourself?

Iam young dynamic and passionate transformational speaker, a role model to many, a trained health & safety personnel, a media practitioner, change catalyst, a child and youth advocate, peer health educator and a youth leader who gives remedies to the challenges many youths face through selfless service, positive and quality trainings, enlightenment and empowerment initiatives.

What have you done to deserve all these titles?
I am the Founding Executive Director of a renowned child and youth advocacy organization called De-Youths Passion Initiative (YPI).  Founded on January 10, 2010, YPI has a mission to redefine the mindset of young people towards positivity and possibility.
In addition, as the Principal Consultant of Isaac Success International, a firm that focuses on building human value systems through sound mentoring, coaching and tutoring. Finally, as the Managing Editor of Youthlife Media, an educational magazine and online youth resource news platform streamlined to showcase the lifestyle, passion, purpose and foster education of young people in urban and rural areas.
By God’s grace I serve as a mentor to many, a consultant to some small scale and retail business owners, a brand specialist, a personal development trainer, and an inspirational writer. I speak passionately and purposefully at events transforming and giving lives a direction. I am also a trained web  and graphic professional.

Tell me about your childhood?

Growing up for me in the popular ghetto city known as “Ajegunle” here in Lagos, Nigeria, served as an eye opener to life. It gave me an appetite to be a better person as I never allow my background to be a determinant to what I become.

My education was quite challenging and I had to drop out of school several times due to lack of funds to cater for my school fees, text books and so on but I didn’t allow the situation to determine what I become. I remained determined, focused and positive about my future.
The major challenge I faced personally while growing up here in Ajegunle city of Lagos state was peer pressure, as I was pressured to be involved in some juvenile delinquency. The discovery of whom I am (PURPOSE), however, made me to stand above the pressures. My conviction for my future has been a driving force, so there has not been any room or opportunity to settle for less the condition or situation I find myself notwithstanding.

How did you choose to become a speaker and coach?

As a child, I had a speech disorder. As a matter of fact, I was a chronic stammerer and I had difficulty expressing myself. Stammering is most commonly associated with involuntary sound repetition and the prolongation of certain sounds. People around me ridiculed me and laughed at me anytime I tried to speak.
That naturally made me have low self-esteem as I felt people looked down on me and could hardly believe in me. However, I have always been very  passionate about public speaking, but being a stammerer was my greatest challenge in realizing my passion.

What did you do to make your dream become a reality?

In any case, I resolved to get better, and I  developed myself to become a better person. With time, I got better and moved from being a chronic stammerer to a dynamic sought after public speaker and personal development trainer. To God be all the glory.
I have had the priviledge of training over 5000 youth leaders within and outside Ajegunle city of Lagos State.  I have spoken at numerous meetings aimed at transforming lives positively.

Are there any moments which stand out?

In 2011, I was one of the selected individuals hosted by the former Honourable Minister of Youth Development, now Sports Minister in Nigeria, at a youth development market place held in Lagos.

What were you like as a child?

As a child, I was very shy, like I said before, due to my speech disorder and I found it difficult to relate with people because I couldn't stand them laughing at me. Growing up, I became so passionate and focused on the believe that I won't remain who I was at that stage, but will grow to be much more better.

What dreams did you have as a child?

I have always wanted to bless lives for God, I always wanted to be a minister for God, there’s no doubt about that. This led my parents to think I will end up becoming a pastor because my actions while I was younger pointed to this fact. Growing up, however, made me realise that I could bless lives, give lives meaning even without being a pastor. The work I do now ministers to people strategically, but I am not a pastor. My childhood dream has been to be a blessing to the world.

What is unique about you and are your passions?

I’m enthusiastic about making young people discover their purpose for living. There is a lot of poverty caused by unemployment. I believe that the cause of poverty is due to the rate of unemployment in the country and underutilized potentials which leads to the abuse of young people. This situation was the turning point, giving rise to my public speaking career, inspiring young people to become their dream. I love putting smiles on the faces of people as I believe that being a success in life is all about adding vaue to people’s life.

What does your work as the Executive Director of  YPI involve?

Being the Executive Director of De Youths Passion Initiative has been a great avenue and opportunity to serve, as it has been my conviction that greatness is all about service. For me, serving my creator *God* and my nation has been of great joy and a sense of fulfillment. It has been an opportunity to leverage lives from a level of nothing to something, from zero to hero, from mundane to abundance.

What led you to create YPI as an NGO?

My life’s assignment was my driving force knowing fully well that life is not all about me. The purpose for my existence is to give birth to successful individuals via positive impact and inspiration. Setting up YPI was an avenue to achieve this purpose, and to God be the glory, lives are being transformed on a daily basis.

What would you say makes you uniquely qualified for your line of work?

I always tell people something, God doesn’t call the qualified, but he qualifies the called. I wasn’t qualified for the task ahead of me, starting up without anything but my obedience for the call of the work ,gave birth to provision. Since, this idea is God given, then his provision is available. So, as God is involved, I am uniquely qualified *smiles*

Tell me about De-Youths Passion Initiative

With keen observation of the potentials of young people in the popular ghetto city,  "Ajegunle", a city channeled into various negative attributes and with a locality that affects the mentality of the people living there thereby giving them  low self, I knew I had to do something.  I had the conviction that young people should be a voice in the society because they have a strategic role to play in the development of every nation. In achieving this, DE-YOUTHS PASSION INITIATIVE (YPI), a child and youth advocacy organization dedicated to redefining the mindset of people towards positivity and possibility - knowing fully well that the mindset of a man is a determinant to purposeful living. The organization’s headquarter is in Ajegunle, Lagos. It also runs chapters in Delta State and Imo State, Nigeria. The mission is spreading steadily and as well impacting lives positively. Our areas of focus includes Peer Education, Capacity Development, Education, Charity Outreach and Community Development.

What other projects are you involved in?

The first Project we embarked on was the WHY VALENTINE PROJECT which was set up to redefine people’s mindset
especially the most vulnerable ones about St. Valentine’s day. This was part of our enlightenment program of developing positive attitudes towards vulnerable people.  Hands of Hope Project was set up in October 2010 to re-inject hope, love, empathy to the most vulnerable people in the society, that is,  the motherless and abandoned children, the sick in hospitals, physically challenged and so on.

How have your experiences shaped your life?

Hmmm, It gave me an appetite to become much more better, to move from being unknown to be known today.

What is a typical day at work like?

It’s always fulfilling doing what I love to do, even with my graphic work, it's all about inspiration!

What do you do in your free time/hobbies?

I love talking a lot, but most importantly making sense to people. Counseling people, listening to messages that will edify me and I love singing.

What’s your favourite quote?

Your mind-set is a determinant to your life-set. Think Right and you’ll live right.

Would you like to offer any advice to people wanting to go into charity?

Yea, what you don’t give, you don’t get, but what you give you receive in abundance.
Although, you can't give what you don’t have lol.  The more you add value to people’s life, in the same form or way you are adding value to your life, the more you raise people you are also rasing yourslef. It’s never  a challenge with what you don’t have, but the challenge is what you have and you don’t know how to use. Never limit yourself, You can, You must and You’ll make the difference!

Do you have any events planned for the future?

On December 8, 2012, we’ll be having a
one day training to move people from where they are to where they want to be. Move from your Passion to a Profession and Get profit doing what you love.
Then, next year 2013 February, we’ll be taking our WHY VALENTINE PROJECT as an International event, we are still seeking international partners and sponsors for this laudable event.
