Nelson Mandela at 94 : His life in pictures

Qunu, South Africa - South Africans was awash with excited crowds who filled the streets celebrating Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday. The streets of Qunu, Mandela’s childhood village came to a halt as people greeted and congratulated each other reports say. The whole
nation on Wednesday honoured the legacy of the famous statesman by participating in good deeds nationwide.
Mandela was celebrated worldwide on his birthday for his role in reconciling a country torn apart by apartheid. In South Africa, citizens performed at least 67 minutes of public service, a reference to the number of years he devoted to helping others.
In the village of Qunu, relatives, including children and grandchildren, gathered to mark his birthday and perform community service at the local health centres.
Later, Mandela’s family got together for a meal that included a champagne toast and his favourite dish of tripe, a meat delicacy.
As I as thought about the man Mandela, I began to remember why he is has been so honoured and powerful words such leader, courage, hero, inspiration, legend, role model, freedom and hope come to mind. I looked through Twitter and Facebook for some inspiration and well wishers from all around the world poured out millions of heart-warming messages.

Happy Birthday Tata Rolihlahla! Here is wishing you many more years of joy and good health.
