The world is indeed has always been a
dangerous place. But is the world becoming more violent? From ages past,
villages, towns and countries have
committed violent atrocities in the name of
war, greed, boredom and so on. Nothing much has changed today. What is
different though, is the fact that the types of violent crimes have changed and there are more crimes of a psychological
nature. Why? I hear you ask.
We
should not be surprised of the rise in random violence because today, we are
surrounded by so many different electrical gadgets which can provide us with so
much information. We have access to TV, books and experiences which show us how
to live, what we must achieve to be wealthy and happy. We learn how to look
million dollars through the media, the perfect 'this' and the perfect 'that'.
We have so much thrust at us than we can cope with. We are told it is good to
work until you burn out and it is bad to stay idle. We are taught to grow continuously.
Those who can't cope, well, will fall by the way side, some watch all these
different things which influence, have a break down or fall ill. Many
of us thrive on other people’s concepts and actions. Messages in the news, music
and films are violent, even our homes ae full of violence.
We
now use violence as a means to entertain ourselves. Nursery Rhymes such as Humpty
Dumpty is violent. Shows like Family Guy have a lot of violence subtly infused
in. Stop making excuses saying "It isn't real!" Violence in films and
in music is real. WE see the actions on screen now in 3D, we hear the
accompanying sounds, hear the words and get emotionally involved. We scream
with terror or freeze with fear in our seats, then, that is real. When our
emotions are required to enjoy entertainment, it becomes a part of who we are,
a subliminal message gets lodged in the brain which slowly accumulates over
time, and becomes stronger with the repetition of exposure to similar
entertainment.
Thankfully
for many of us, no harm is done but for those who are mentally weak it can be a
problem.
So, what’s the solution?
Decide
what is appropriate for you to watch, listen to or read and what is not. If
you watch a film that gives you nightmares, makes you feel angry, makes you
think about violence or that make you feel scared long after watching the film,
then, you need to avoid similar films in future. Same goes for children. When a
child is exposed to violence early on in life, the messages of pain are saved
in their subconscious mind and get re-enforced each time the violence is experienced
until they try to act out Avoid violent films, books, games, sites, toys and
especially those that seem innocent and sweet.
Secure your homes and install alarms to help you keep safe. Buy an approved mobile alarm to keep you safe when you are out and about at night.
Be vigilante. Look around you for any strange behaviour. If someone behaves in a suspicious way around you, call the police or raise an alarm.
If you hear loud bangs around you, immediately, lies flat on the ground.until the coast is clear.
