OGMG UK & IRELAND - GALILEE WALK - 12 Tips for a successful sponsored walk - Map of Hyde Park and how to get there

UK, LONDON - The much awaited event of the Easter weekend will kick off on Easter Monday in London, Hyde Park on April 2nd. If you are attending, here are 12 useful tips for the Hyde Park GALILEE WALK Event organised by the OGMG UK & IRELAND.

OGMGUK and Ireland is an association of old girls of Methodist Girls High School in Lagos, Nigeria. Most of the old girls attended the school between 1970s and 1980s. The association is made up of over 200 old girls.

The purpose of the association is to help raise funds for their old school to rebuild, renovate and refurbish the school. Members of OGMGUK and Ireland live in the UK and in Ireland as the name suggests.

The Galilee Walk is an initiative to raise funds to build one of the old buildings which has now fallen into disrepair. The aim of the Galilee alk is to raise £7000 for a new building. The OGMG UK and Ireland are joining forces with other old girls around the world to make the project an awesome success.

If you are new to Hyde Park here are some useful tips for you...

Tube stations nearest to the park are Marble Arch and Oxford Street. There are several buses on this route, check this travel planner out. When you come out of the station and look for the park and head straight to the Speaker's Corner. This is the meeting point. Speakers' Corner is a round building located on the north-east edge of Hyde Park. The building hss a roof and can be used as shelter from rain.

There is also parking available at £10 per day.

At Speaker"s Corner, you will meet the registration team from OGMG UK & Ireland.

The route is sort of, in a circlular path. You will will start from the registration point and finish at the registration point.

8km = 60 minutes of fast walking
The walk is for 8km. This is will roughly take between jalf an hour to 90 minutes to walk depending on speed. Here are estimates from verywellfit. Fast walking - 7 minutes per kilometre.  Moderate walking: 10 minutes per kilometre Easy walking: 12.5 minutes per kilometre. This works out at around 90 minutes for easy walking.

Wear comfortable clothing
Jogging suits, slacks, trainers, walking shoes, waterproof clothing, warm clothing and so on. You could probably add a hint of red to stand out from the crowd.

Guides will help you on your way
You will find OGMG 'Guides' along the trail who will show you the way if you get lost. You can also make phone calls to the coordinators in case you find yourself in any unfamiliar area.

Stretch before you start walking
If you have not done any physical training in the past few days or weeks, take regular breaks along the route. Stretch frequently and most importantly take it easy.

Ride a bike
You can hire a cycle from the Santander docknng station just outside the north gates near Speaker's Corner for £2 a day.

Drink water
Although, the weather has become quite cold and wet, walking can be tiring and you may get thirsty quickly. Take regular sips of water to hydrate and energise you.

Take pictures and videos
Record a memory of the event. The hashtag for this event is #GalileeWalk - use this tag on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Please, ask people for their permission before posting online. Many people don't mind but some do.
