Preparations for the Badagry Art Exhibition are well underway. Scheduled for November 5 – 7, 2013, the Exhibition which is being organised by acclaimed UK based artist, Ruth Bircham The exhibition is set to cause a stir in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria later this year. With over 30 artists participating, this is the first time that international and local African artists will congregate in the vibrant coastal old slave town of Badagry to showcase world-class talent. Artworks will include drawings, paintings, sculpture, design and multi-media.

So, all art lovers and historian should stand by and watch this space! The key goal of this Exhibition, which is slated to hold in the spacious Badagry Town Hall, right in the heart of the city, is two fold: (1) To help create awareness and to educate people all over the world about what really happened during the slave trade which spanned 200 years, and (2) to provide a site for the display of artworks by African artists about the trade on African soil.

Over 10, 000 people are expected to visit the three day Exhibition and to attend to workshops and seminars.

In due course, the names of all artists will be published plus samples of their work. I will also publish a detailed program for the three day event. These are exciting times so please keep checking.
