Where were you on September 11, 2001?

I remember where I was so vividly like it happened yesterday. September 11, 2001. I was working in the Job Centre in Balham, south west London and it was about 3 in the afternoon. I had popped into Dixons on the high street to look for a TV to buy. I looked around for a few minutes, then,  I saw a few people in the shop shout and run towards the TV screens. All the TVs were tuned in to the same station - I saw a plane fly towards one of the twin towers and crash into it...

I thought, "what a good movie." After a few minutes another plane came flying and I hear someone say "it's not a movie, the twin towers have been attacked!" The rest is history.

Last year, I visited 'ground zero' in New York City and I couldn't but marvel at the gaping space let behind. The memorial shop was equally touching - filled with life-size photographs, personal items of the victims had been made into a memorial statue, there were 'missing persons' notices, recordings of telephone messages from loved ones frantically trying to get in touch with the victims and of calls made to the emergency services.

Ten years on and the pain is still raw. Where were you on that day?

Here is wishing all the families of the victims of 911 a peaceful memorial.
