Landslides and flooding triggered by Typhoon Roke left as many as 13 people dead or missing. The Typhoon's strong winds turned toward the country's northernmost island of Hokkaido in the wee hours, approaching the eastern coast with wind speeds up to 78 miles per hour. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts the typhoon will weaken into a tropical storm as it moves back into the Pacific Ocean Thursday evening.
