Doing Your Best Today by Morin Okenla

Being the best you can ever be is a matter of choice. You have to make a decision to do your best every day. If you wish to be the best you can be, it is possible for you to change and begin your journey of transformation. It can be a tough journey but you will get there if you really want to.
Where does your journey start? It starts in your mind. Think about it, write down what you want to achieve and how you think you can achieve your best. Being in the right frame of mind helps. Motivational quotes like these can change your perspective.

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Jim Ryun
Resolve that whatever you do, you will bring the whole man to it; that you will fling the whole weight of your being into it." Orison Swett Marden

When I was growing up and I carried out tasks in a careless manner, my mother used to say,
"What is worth doing at all is worth doing very well." If you decide to do something why not do it in an excellent manner. All it would take is a little bit of more effort.

Focus. Pay attention to whatever you are doing. Some people say that they are 'a jack of all trades' or that they can multi-task, from my own experience if you do two or more things at once you will fail to achieve your best in any one of them. Do one thing at a time and give it your full attention.

Allocate a specific amount of time for each activity. Many of us want to do too much in a short time so we end up rushing through activities and quickly tick them off a list. To be your best, you need to give each activity reasonable time for you to complete, review and amend it if necessary until you achieve an excellent result.

Take a step at a time. Many of us want to accomplish so much in life because we think we are in a race with others. You hear people around you say to you 'don't get left behind' or 'you need to catch up, everyone has left you behind.' When you begin to think you are in a race, you may start out trying to do your best but get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of what you have to do and then do it anyhow or give up. Take things easy and set your own agenda and set your own pace. You are not in a race with anyone.

Have a clear mind. Confusion breeds underachievement. If you are surrounded by chaos, disorganisation and conflict then there is a very little chance of you doing your best. To be your best you need to be in a peaceful, calm and empowering environment. You can find peace through prayer and having faith in God.

Have a positive attitude. If you believe you can be the best in your occupation, in your family, in your neighbourhood, you will. A negative attitude will take you no where. Being positive is about seeing and expecting the best in everything and in everyone around you. Avoid people or situations that are constantly negative otherwise the negativity will rub off on you. Look for positive people who help bring out the best in you.

Look for a role model. There are many people who have achieved a lot in life. They did it by giving everything they did their very best. Good is not enough. Very good is not enough. Outstanding is the standard. So, whatever you do, make sure that it stands out from the crowd. Learn from the greats. Always give anything you do your best shot.

Work hard and burn the midnight oil. Doing your best at everything takes a lot of work. You have to work hard. You have to stop yourself from going to that party, to watch that new film, these are the distractions that keep us from achieving our best. Instead you focus on what you are doing and sit down at the task until your back hurts and your head pounds, yes! No one will tell you but that what it takes.

Never give up trying to be the best. At the end of the day it pays.
