How to decorate a beautiful Christmas tree

With a beautiful symmetrically well decorated Christmas tree, you can make this Christmas one to remember...

Here is what you need to make a beautiful well decorated Christmas tree:

WHAT YOU NEED

A good 5 or 6 foot Christmas tree (not the cheap ones that crack up within a year). It could be green, white, black, blue or any colour you fancy - you need to decide on the colour theme for your tree.

Four rolls of tinsels I am using greens, red and gold). A multipack of gold, red and silver ball. A box of Cadbury Roses chocolate sweets. Last year, I used tiny gift boxes hung up on the tree. Two strings of gold and red beads. A large red Christmas star. Large Christmas stockings or wrapped gifts under the tree (you could wrap up empty boxes for the same effect). 100 white or blue Christmas lights ( I don't really fancy the multi-coloured ones). If you have a 6' tree, you should use 600 lights or 6 strands with 100 lights per strand.

HOW TO DECORATE THE TREE

Step 1: Decide on the overall colour scheme that you would like to use on your Christmas tree. It could be all green, red & gold, red & silver, pink & white, aqua & turquoise, or any other colour combination that you like. The colour scheme you select for your Christmas tree should compliment the colour scheme of the room your tree is going into. But you could also have a wild, delightful and randomly decorated tree!

Step 2: Shop for a very sturdy and durable tree and Christmas ornaments such as tinsel, balls, chocolate sweets, ribbon, beads, lights, angel, star etc. You can find the best ones in stores like John Lewis, Argos and online. You can also buy a fresh tree from your local farmer's market. Also, buy lots of decorations of your choice. You can use the ones you bought from last year.

Step 3: Set the tree up making sure that you fix in the legs well. Spread out the branches symmetrically, starting from the bottom. There should be one long sturdy branch at the top of the tree.

Step 4: Place the gold tinsel round the tree in a circular and upward motion starting from the bottom. Let it hang loosely on the tree. When one strip finishes, get another one and continue from where you stopped. Next, get the red tinsel and do the same.

Step 5: Add the gold and red balls to the trees alternatively at different positions and heights so that there is a balance effect. For example, you place on red ball, then a gold ball, the another red ball on the tree - all the way round until the tree is randomly decorated with ball.

Step 6: Drape the tree with the gold string of beads making sure that you move round the tree so that the beads hand in layers. There should be about four layers. At this point you could add other ornament s of your choice. This year, I have hung lots of chocolate sweets. Periodically step back and look at your decorating progress. Larger ornaments look best towards the bottom of your tree and your smaller ornaments look best towards the top of your tree.

Step 7: Put the Christmas lights on your tree. You can use either clear or white for a professional designer look. Make sure you put the lights on evenly around your Christmas tree, both towards the trunk and the outside of the tree. 100 mini lights per foot of tree is suggested. Check to make sure they are working properly. As I mentioned earlier, I don't fancy multi-coloured lights.

Step 8: A tree topper finishes off the Christmas tree decorations. The tree topper could be a traditional star, Santa, a fancy designer bow, an angel, something you made or anything else that will top off your tree.

Step 9: For extra decorative flair, colour coordinate your Christmas gift wrap to your Christmas tree's colour scheme. You can use multiple colours, textures, and patterns of paper and ribbon in your colour scheme. Simple brown craft paper used as wrapping paper with a fancy bow is always a designer favourite. Fill up your stockings and then place them all under the tree.

I hope your beautiful Christmas tree will help enhance your Christmas and light up your day!

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
